Reflection Task 3

                                                              Person of the year

I choose Julian Assange as the person of the year. I will give some information about him. He was born on July 3, 1971 in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. He is a publisher and journalist. We know him as an editor-in-chief and founder of Wikileaks which publishes secret information. He was a computer programmer before becoming known for his working with Wikileaks. He founded Wikileaks in 2006 but it was not known widely. After some time Wikileaks became well known because it gave information about US military and diplomatic documents thanks to Chelsea and Bradley Manning help. Because of these top secrets, which had been released by Julian Assange, Chelsea and Bradley were found guilty. The United States has also considered Wikileaks Supporters guilty. Julian believes radical democracy and he also believes that the state that ruled country with top secrets can be reformed by public. He says that there should be no secret if there is a state.

I gave information about my person of the year. He created a big chaos and he deserved this award. I cannot say I agree with him or not but I can say that he made a good job thanks to his courageousness.

Reflection Task 2

To Learn Foreign Language in Turkey

There are too many ways for someone to learn foreign language. You can learn it with your parents by speaking, you can learn it in school or can also learn it by taking a course and so on as you see there are many ways to learn a foreign language but I think there is something wrong with Turkish people or Turkey’s education system. I mean when you look at students who have been studying at least for ten years to learn a foreign language cannot speak this foreign language. What is the problem? Why cannot our students speak or write even if they have learned this foreign language for a long time? In my opinion there is something totally wrong and the wrong is not anything but education system. For instance in my high school students were taught only grammar but they were still bad at grammar moreover they were also bad at both speaking and writing. It is the most ridiculous way to teach a foreign language. If I was a teacher and had 4 hours to teach them the language, I would teach them grammar in two hours (because of the exams they have to pass), would speak with them in one hour and in another one hour I would teach them to write by using these styles I would develop their skills. I think you cannot learn a foreign language only with its grammar structures. I know grammar is important but the others are as important as grammar.  Unfortunately Turkey’s education system does not allow teachers to carry out these teaching styles.

Reflection task 1

Hi! My name is Büşra. I am from Turkey. But I am not totally a Turkish girl. I am half Albanian and half Turkish. My mother is from Albanian and my father is from Turkey. I want to introduce myself. I have curly hair, I am not tall and I am not fat, my eyes are green. In the past I used to play with my baby dolls but I left them and I started to play guitar. I have been playing guitar for a long time and I want to be a singer because my voice is really good and I am good at playing guitar. I used to want to be a doctor but I don’t want anymore because I realized that I don’t love studying so much. If you want to be a doctor, you have to study so much in my country and it really doesn’t fit me. Actually I don’t know what I must say about myself. I am studying at METU. I want to speak about my last day at METU. I went to my department and I had a midterm it was easy but I was so excited. I had French exam too but it was not good. I have a lot of exam and I don’t know what I will do. I hope I will pass the exams with a high grade. And that’s all I hope you will like me J
